Week 14 Blog Devin Hinskson

I did not present this week and in watching the other presentations I noticed some things that I will definitely want to improve upon when my team presents. I noticed that we really need to articulate words and express things a little more for the teachers to understand. This week there wasn’t much to do besides meet with our teams on zoom and talk about what we need to finish.

This week I put in articles and facts on our wiks website. I also added a quiz for the website. The quiz will be taken by anyone who can access the website and the data will be gathered. The articles and facts are going to be gathered from official websites and hopefully everything is alright.

Our team decided to choose who will present each part of the presentation. I think our group is working hard together to finish the project. COVID-19 sucks horribly. Katy and Ben finished putting in the video and graphics for the website. I’m pretty excited to see the final project when it’s done. This semester is coming to and end and to be completely honest, I wish we did a completely different topic but the one we have is fine I guess.

Week 14 Blog

This week we continued to work on our group project and I believe we are starting to finalize things on the website. However, I am still working on the infographic and I talked about how last week I was struggling to find how I would present the information in a unique and eye-catching way. But I found some inspiration and I am working on the infographic currently and it is going well. I already showed some of the graphics to my group members and all of them said they liked it. So, I believe I am heading in the right direction. I have also been helping out with the website design and I think everyone is liking that as well. I am sorry I missed the meeting on Wednesday, but I sent you an email explaining my situation about how I ruptured my left eardrum, and I also sent you proof that it happened if you haven’t seen that yet. But I understand you are busy in this unique time and maybe haven’t had time to see it yet. I think our group communication is good and I am happy with how everything is going and I think we have a great project. I still wouldn’t change anything about my group.

Week 14 – Brynne

This week, we made a lot of progress on our website. I think we have a lot better of an idea of what we want on it after getting some feedback. It was also helpful to hear how we could make it more cohesive. I have a page that I’m specifically working on, and I’m slightly struggling with how the information would look best set up. At first, I thought it had to be completely interactive, so now I think I have a little better of an idea of what I want to do with it. I’m going to look through some other websites to get ideas on how I could set it up in a clean, yet engaging way. I’m hoping we all have everything pretty much done by Wednesday, which is the day of our practice presentation. Hopefully, we can get as much feedback as possible so things go well for our final presentation and we can fix whatever we need to. It’s a little bit harder to make everything cohesive when we’re not making it together, but zoom calls have really helped to discuss what we want it all to look like. Overall, things are going well and we should be able to have everything done by the deadline.

Week 14 Blog

This week I have really been focusing on the content for the website and adding in some elements that are not just plain text on the screen. It is difficult, but I made a video in after effects that should help the first page of the website. I think by the beginning of next week everything should be done. I am hoping all of my group gets their portions completed so we can receive feedback on every component of the site. I also found a few different clips of ageism in television and movies, so I am planning on compiling that soon. I have found a lot more motivation to get things done since we are closer to the finish line and making a lot of progress on the finished product. Weaving information about OLLI into the website is giving me some trouble. I don’t really know a good place to put it, but just placing the interview with an OLLI member without any other context will be confusing. It’s not really the main focus of the website anymore, but I think it’s still a good thing to include. Other than that, I’m feeling confident about everything else we are doing. I am excited to get some feedback on the final result and I’m hoping there are not any huge changes that need to be made before the final presentation.

Week 13 Blog Devin Hinkson

This week my team discussed finishing the project. We are basically done but we have to incorporate everything into our website and discuss talking points. Things are definitely coming together better than i expected and it seems everything will be smooth by the end. I’m excited to see what our final product is and how people can interact with it and learn from it. Ollic is definitely something special that I think a lot of people my age overlook. Age is something we don’t really care much about. We need to finish the website for our project and that’s it. I don’t believe we need any help from the faculty at this moment. We have discussed who is presenting some things but nothing is set in stone as of right now. But we have clear assignments on who is doing what to finish everything up. I want my team to get comfortable with the practice presentation and have fun with it. I think our subject is pretty well thought out and we have a lot of cool information. So i think if we can get comfortable with speaking to the faculty everything will be ok. This week I helped plan what we need to finish and I added a quiz to the website for the interactive portion. We are almost done so our challenges are almost completely gone.

Week 13 Blog

As of right now, I don’t think we are struggling. We have been able to share our ideas effectively and that has been a huge factor in our success so far during this pandemic. We have a good start on our website and we have already conducted interviews and met with OLLI. However, I am in charge of the statistics portion of the website and I am still struggling to find a way to uniquely present information about ageism in visual design. I know I have talked to you about this already but I have had some ideas but when try them I usually run into the problem of the visual not making sense because there isn’t a ton of statistics on ageism and when there are it is hard to portray without wanting to make it a pie chart or graph. I don’t know if I need any help as of right now. I am pretty confident I will find some sort of way to present it. I am not sure if we specifically agreed on anyone speaking for the practice session but I’ll ask in the GroupMe after this. During the practice presentation, I just want my group to see what is the best way to present the project effectively. This week I helped with the website design and the only challenge I have encountered while doing that is only one person can edit the site at a time. I wouldn’t do anything differently besides ask if anyone is editing it before I hop on and make my own edits.

Week 13 Blog

Our practice presentations are next week. Our team has finished all of our research we are now finishing up some videos, graphics, and finding some more information for the website. We need to find some videos of ageism in the media. I think this concept will be really interesting and add a lot to the website to include this. It really drives home the message that ageism is everywhere in society, and the media normalizes treating older people like they are stupid, unaware, crazy, unstable, weak, etc. We have not discussed who will be presenting what for the presentation. I think it would be best if we all discussed what portions we worked on. When we do our practice presentation, I hope we get feedback on the things that need to be changed, some more ideas to include on the site, and some areas that could be stronger. I hope we buckle down between the practice presentation and the final presentation in order to ensure our website is at the best quality it could possibly be. I think we’ve made a lot of good progress this week and I am really excited to see how the final product turns out.

Week 13 Blog

This week, we have made a lot of progress on our website and things are starting to really come along. We have assigned specific aspects of the website to be done by each of us, and if we continue to meet our deadlines, we should be ready to start putting the final touches on it within a week or so. We still have a lot to work on, and something we were struggling with was making the website look cohesive. This was because we are all in different places and working on the website individually now. This is why we decided to zoom today and make sure we were all on the same page in terms of what we wanted the end product to look like and specific aspects that would work well with it. From the practice presentation, we want to make sure that we are ready for the final changes and want to hear feedback on what we could improve before doing so. This is going to be very helpful in finishing the website to make sure everything looks good. Overall, I think we are on the right track, but we may need to speed things up a little bit to ensure that we are done on time.

Week 12 Blog

This week, we have been gathering a lot of our research and figuring out the media we will be using along with our OLLI footage. I found a few good videos and Ted Talks that will maybe be good to include in our videos. It has been challenging to figure out what we will all include in our website. I made an outline that has the main things we should be covering in our website. I think it will help a lot to see what we have done so far and what we still need to do. I really want to try to make our website as interactive as we can, since we don’t have a ton of media gathered originally. I think an interactive map showing ageism in different countries would be cool, but I’m not sure how to do that. I also thought an interactive quiz would be fun. I was thinking about doing an “Are you Ageist?” quiz, to maybe bring up some things that people may not think of as being ageist. Other than that, I think my group will need to collaborate in order to get several ideas going. I think we’re getting a good vision of what we need to be doing.

Week 12 Skow

Things are going good for our group. We’ve only got a couple weeks left so it’s time to put everything together. We started making our website, and it’s time to customize it and make it our own. We learned a lot from our interactive analysis presentations, and plan to bring that knowledge into our site. I’m personally in charge of our team’s video so I have been putting most of my efforts into that. We have a couple of interviews and a lot of b-roll, so I have been cutting that all up and stitching it all together. I’m confident it will look good and professional. I’m working on custom motion graphics that I believe will bring up the production value. The video component of our production should be done within the next couple of days.
